Summer is the perfect time to spend all the time outside that you can with friends and family. There are endless activities that help you stay active while having fun. Just because summer is coming to an end doesn’t mean there’s not plenty of time left to enjoy the great weather. Check out these fun things to do before the weather gets too cold.
Swimming in whatever swimming pool is available is most kids’ favorite summer activity—and adults love it too! Swimming laps burns serious calories, tones muscles, and will leave you feeling refreshed after a full-body workout.
Swimming pools don’t have to be only for exercise though! The whole family will love going to the pool together. The kids will have a great time splashing around, and the adults can enjoy relaxing with a book or while listening to music. You can even pack a picnic lunch to eat together poolside. Just don’t forget the sunscreen!
Jumping right in to an all-out tennis match can be hard on your body, so ease into it at first. But as you get into better shape, you’ll find that tennis is one of the best summer workouts there is. Just grab a partner and head to your local park!
Bring more tennis balls than you think you’ll need so you don’t have to spend all your time gathering them and can spend more time playing. If the weather is still hot during the day where you live, get out on the court in the early morning or evening to stay more comfortable.
Unfortunately, this activity really only works if you live by an ocean. But if you do, you should take full advantage of the waves! Not only will you get to spend more time in the water, but you will get a fantastic upper body workout at the same time.
If you’ve never tried surfing before, start slow on a soft-top board and take lessons to get the technique down. If you have friends who surf, ask them for tips in getting started as well.
If you live by mountains or hills, hiking is a fun way to get a cardio workout outside while enjoying the fresh air and a great view. Before you head out to hike, make sure you’re wearing proper footwear and socks and that you have plenty of water. If you’re going on a difficult hike or plan on hiking a lot in the future, investing in a pair of hiking boots will really pay off.
When you’re on your hike, keep your phone in your bag and just enjoy nature! Also, make sure to never hike alone and let someone else know where you’ll be.
If you have a big group, you will have fun playing beach or sand volleyball together while burning calories in the process! Even if you’ve never played before, don’t be afraid to jump right in. You’ll be able to pick it up quickly. A lot of local parks have sand courts that are free to use. Make sure to dress comfortably and as with any physical activity, stay hydrated!
